DIY Wood Slice Ornament

IMG_0384_Fotor

I have lived on my own now for about two years and have made it my own tradition to save a piece of my Christmas tree each year.  I decorate with a “woodlands” feel so this is perfect for my house! When I get my christmas tree I ask to keep the slice they cut before they tie up the tree 🙂

If you don’t get real trees, I know you can get wood slices from Michael’s or any craft store.

Below is the very first slice I ever had! It’s a little cracked now, but I’ve had it for two years!

This year I wanted to take it just one DIY step further!

What I am using:
Wood slice
Small eye hook
Chalk paint
Ribbon
Galaxy Marker in white

Super easy to do!

  1. Paint the middle of the wood slice. Use at least 2 coats
  2. Once dry, use white marker to make your design.
  3. Insert eye hook at top of slice
  4. Cut ribbon to size –  I used a hot glue gun to adhere it

There it is! I love when my projects are so easy

Cute Tiffany! Where did you get your wood slices from? Do you prep it at all?
Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

The wood slice is from the bottom of my Christmas tree! When the farm cuts the tree I ask to keep the piece they cut off. I didn’t prep it at all 🙂

Love your painted wood slice. I get some logs from my son and then use my small chop saw to cut thin slices. I have not painted any, but you are inspiring me.
Thanks for sharing at Turn It Up Tuesday,

I love your wood slice and what a wonderful idea to make it from a slice of the Christmas Tree itself, A really clever idea and a the changes you make this year with the chalk paint and ribbon transform the original version. If you get a chance please come and add it to my Trash2Treasure link up. Stopping by today from #justanotherlinky

This is beautiful! I’ve seen readymade ornaments like this in the shops but you can’t beat having your own personalised one! I’m going to have to get organised and get painting! #justanotherlinky
