DIY Floral Wall

Guys, the DIY skills are in full swing this season. As you saw in my Sips & Skulls post, I created a DIY Floral Wall to be hung behind my bar cart.  Let me just say, it’s still hanging there! I don’t want to take it down. Truthfully this DIY can be used for any celebration.

The Floral Wall came to life because I wanted to make this Day Of The Dead themed party as realistic as possible. DOTD is a celebration taken pretty serious in their culture so I wanted to bring it to life the best way I could. In traditional DOTD, they decorate arches with Marigolds and bright-colored flowers and put it around tables where they put their offerings to the dead (food and drinks). So my take on that was a hanging bright-colored carnations along the wall behind my bar cart – because wine, duh.

I used Carnations because they are 3 bouquets for $12  or $4 each at our local Publix. So, I grabbed 4 bouquets.  I dabbled in the idea of fake flowers, but this route was way cheaper and WAY prettier.

What you need:

4 Bouqets of Carnations

Stretch Cord ( used for making jewelry)

Nails

cut to flowers size: Grab all of your bouquets and start cutting them at the base of the stem.

cut stretch cord to size: First of all, I used stretch cord because I knew it would be strong enough to support multiple flowers hanging on it. I don’t have a specific measurement because I kinda eyeballed it for my specific location.

thread your needle: Using the stretch cord, thread your needle like you would if you’re sewing. I double knotted the piece that tied to the needle. Then I tied a tiny knot at the very end of the stretch cord to stop the flower from sliding off.

push it real good: Take your needle and push it through the top of the flower and out through the stem.

tie knots: as you continue to thread through the flower, tie little knots in places to keep the flowers from falling through. For example, I group about 3 flowers together at a time. Once I was satisfied I move about 4 inches up the cord and tied a tiny knot – this allowed me to make bunches of flowers. I loved doing that! It makde each one uniquie.

hang them: I used tiny nails to hammer them into the wall at the perfect height.
